General Summary

The Electrical Engineer I designs and develops electrical systems and components. They apply mathematical and engineering principles to their designs to find a balance between cost with function. They conduct research on new products to innovate system architecture. Their work requires judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of components. They will typically use these skills and tools under the supervision of a senior level electrical engineer.

Essential Job Functions:

• Prepares electrical drawings and specifications and delegates drafting work to drafters.
• Prepares specifications for purchase of materials and equipment.
• Communicates with vendors/manufacturers to source components.
• Inspects and tests components, both vendor and competitive.
• Troubleshoots issues on training devices with the assistance of engineers or technicians.
• Must be capable of safely handling government-furnished equipment and materials.
• Must be available to work a standard weekly schedule with overtime as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Job Functions

• May be asked to perform Programable Logic Controller (PLC) coding.
• May be asked to program Arduino IDE.
• May be asked to layout/design Printed Circuit Board (PCB) parts.

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Good knowledge of electrical theory and engineering techniques. Ability to read and interpret a schematic is essential. Familiarity with lab tools (multimeter, power supplies, etc). Great computer skills with Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of connectors, terminals, wiring, and circuit protection a plus. Working knowledge of serial communication protocols (RS232, RS482, RS422, ARINC-429, etc). Experience in reverse-engineering. Must be able to obtain a security clearance when required by the contract.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited school, Electrical Engineering is strongly preferred. Some experience with CAD software is desired, AutoCAD experience is preferred.
