NJR Clean Energy Ventures, a division of New Jersey Resources, is seeking a Project Engineer (Electrical Engineer/Solar) to supervise the design, construction, and completion of various clean energy power projects. Projects typically involve utility-scale ground mounts and commercial roof-top solar photovoltaic systems but may also include energy storage or electric vehicle components.
Major Responsibilities
• Produce basic PV layout and single-line electrical drawings
• Review and provide comments for electrical design and vendor drawings
• Review and provide comments for electrical calculations including short circuit, cable and conduit sizing, grounding, voltage drop, incident energy and relay coordination
• Assist in the construction management of commercial solar projects to ensure that projects are installed in accordance with the contract, design drawings and company standards
• Conduct field inspections, which require the interpretation and implementation of contract specifications and drawings; note any deficiencies and follow up with contractors on remediation activities
• Develop electrical equipment and installation specifications
• Attend factory witness testing for electrical equipment
• Oversee the commissioning and testing program for new commercial solar projects
Position Specifications
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required
• Five or more years of experience working with an engineering design firm or construction management firm with an emphasis in electrical power system design
• Solar array design experience and experience in commercial or utility solar projects is preferred
• Experience with the National Electrical Code and electrical standards
• Experience in the design and procurement of electrical equipment, including, medium voltage switchgear, generators, inverters and transformers
• At least two years of AutoCAD experience mandatory
• PVSyst software experience preferred
• Proficient in MS Office
• Strong communication skills required
• Ability to scale NJRCEV assets and access rooftops when necessary
• Travel is required 25-35 percent, including overnight travel
Physical Considerations
• Occasional climbing and/or balancing, stooping, kneeling or crouching, crawling and/or reaching
• Exerting up to 20lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 10lbs of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to move objects
• The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions
• The worker may be subject to extreme cold including temperatures typically below 32 degrees F for periods of more than one hour
• Consideration should also be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity
• The worker may be subject to hazards on construction sites including but not limited to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high rooftops, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals
