Primary Duties
Under general direction, incumbent performs general labor and unskilled project work for Facilities Management and Services (FMS). Duties include moving heavy objects such as furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies; assist in campus event set-up; load and unload furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials; clean assigned areas, including such activities removing construction debris; cleaning gutters, culverts, and other drainage structures; power washing assigned areas; cleaning roadsides, streets, and related areas; cleaning applicable equipment; and assisting in other cleaning projects; remove and haul waste and recyclables from areas of central aggregation, special events, and special clean-up sites; assist crafts and construction workers by performing unskilled tasks such as preparing work areas; performing rough repair work; tearing down structures; patching pavement; and performing pick and shovel work; assist in grounds maintenance, including such activities as pruning, trimming and spraying trees and shrubbery; removing undergrowth and debris; and using a spade, hoe, or rake to prepare or clean assigned areas; operate and perform basic preventive maintenance on appropriate hand and powered equipment and tools, supplies, and materials; some positions may be required to use a motor vehicle to transport and deliver heavy or other items.
Facilities Management and Services (FMS) is a large, complex department consisting of approximately 200 employees working various shifts and providing diverse administrative and operational services campus wide.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have the ability to:
• Read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.

• Operate and maintain custodial and grounds equipment.
• Operate a personal computer and perform basic functions, such as email communications.

Recruitment Preferences
Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
• Two years' experience performing custodial, grounds, or similar unskilled labor.
• Experience with the use of powered equipment and tools.
• Experience assembling/disassembling furniture, including modular.
• Experience with and/or certification of forklift operation.
• Experience with liftgate operation.
• Experience with setting up tables/chairs for large events/venues.

Special Requirements
• California State University, Chico, in accordance with CSU policy, requires that the successful candidate complete a background check (including a criminal records check, sexual offender registry check, and/or fingerprinting) prior to assuming this position. • The person holding this position is considered a "Limited Mandated Reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.
• Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Driver's License as well continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.
• The selected candidate must pass a post-offer pre-employment physical examination.
• Incumbent will be required to have Fire Extinguisher License to service and maintain campus extinguishers. ***If selected candidate does not possess a current Fire Extinguisher License, he/she will be expected within six months of hire to acquire the license. The necessary fees associated with securing the license will be paid for by FMS.

Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. The majority of work is physically demanding. Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, move and install equipment. Flexibility is needed to work in difficult conditions and situations (i.e., floor to ceiling and constricted spaces). Requires the use of various hand tools, power tools, and powered equipment for construction, grounds and cleaning projects. Risk of shock when working with electrical equipment/installations.

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, in inclement weather, on ladders, in dusty and sometimes dirty areas. Work sites include even and uneven surfaces, may be subject to noise such as hammer drill, table and skill saws, staple gun and tractor. Work in groups or alone, work after hours as needed to repair campus systems and may require flexible hours to perform installation work. Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment is occasionally required. Incumbent shall receive training in hazardous materials management procedures, which includes: emergency information, spill response procedures, hazard communication, and storage, handling and labeling procedures. Training shall be required for all employees working with hazardous materials.

Benefit Information
CSU, Chico offers a number of benefits to its employees (e.g., sick leave, vacation, health insurance). Eligibility for standard CSU benefits is based on an appointment of half-time or more for a period exceeding six months. Employees appointed less than half-time or less than six months are not eligible for standard CSU benefits but do receive prorated sick leave and vacation.
Eligibility for Affordable Care Act (ACA) benefits is based on an appointment of at least three-quarter time, hired to work a minimum of 130 hours per month over the course of the appointment or works an average of 130 hours or more per month during the measurement period. The ACA guidelines provide for health coverage or FlexCash only. ACA does not provide dental or vision plan coverage.
