The Pharmacy Technician-Level 3 (Pharmacy Advanced Technician) assists the Pharmacist with technical and non-technical routine duties related to the acquisition, storage and dispensing of medications, chemicals, and related supplies. The Pharmacy Advanced Technician prepares medication orders, stocks carts and inventories, delivers medication to the nursing units, and fills medication dispensing machines. This Technician also performs routine clerical duties in support of operations. Under the supervision of the Pharmacist, they prepare I.V., piggybacks and TPNs according to established policies and procedures. This Technician works directly with the Pharmacist as it relates to technical and non-technical duties. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation.
The Pharmacy Advanced Technician has specialized duties associated with a specific pharmacy or service that requires advanced technical tasks. The Pharmacy Advanced Technician responsibilities are varied and this position receives instruction and training from the supervising pharmacist on processes and procedures. Examples of advanced technician duties are, but not limited to, chemotherapy preparation, procurement or inventory management (as primary role), medication history collection and data entry, MTDM clinic scheduling, anesthesia medication management of inventory, and "meds-to-beds" delivery to customers or patients.
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Business/college courses preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: New Jersey Registration required; National Pharmacy Technician certification required, while incumbents within position will have one year once notified to obtain this certification to remain employed in the pharmacy department.
EXPERIENCE: 1 year retail pharmacy experience required or 1 year of experience in hospital pharmacy required. Strong organizational, prioritization communications and mathematic skills required. Ability to perform tasks as directed. Pharmacy Computer System experience required. Effective communications skills required. Patient confidentiality required. Proficiency with Microsoft applications preferred. Flexible schedule required, which may require working various shifts and weekends depending on department needs. Eligible incumbents, must be in technician level II position for a minimum of six months and demonstrate necessary proficiencies to be able to transfer to another position. If incumbent has transferred to another position in the past, the waiting period increases to 1 year before eligible.

Potential for exposure to the hazards of the hospital environment, such as exposure to infectious disease, hazardous waste, and potential injury.
Requires the ability to stand and walk 90% of the time. Requires the ability to reach, and lift up to 30 to 40 pounds. Essential functions of this position are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
